CBD & Sleep

When it comes to your body, sleep has several important functions. It helps the body rest and restore itself as well as helping with cognition, including brain functioning. Those who get adequate sleep report better concentration, higher athletic abilities, wiser food choices, and overall less anxiety and steady mood regulation. But with upwards of 80% of Americans reporting that they have sleep trouble at least 1 time in a 7 day period, something is amiss when it comes to getting proper sleep.
What are two of the biggest reasons that people can't seem to fall asleep or stay asleep? Turning off the brain and pain. Ruminating thoughts, stress, and anxiety can keep a person up at night, as can chronic or acute pain. These ailments also make it hard to fall back to sleep in the middle of the night once you've woken up. By quelling the symptoms that keep people from sleeping, CBD oil is helping people get a better, more restful night's sleep, and leading to overall better health.
CBD works to calm the body and, in studies, has been proven effective at relieving both pain and anxiety--two of the major factors that keep people from getting the sleep they need. In many cases, when these areas are calmed, sleep comes on more easily and the quality of the sleep makes for a more refreshed feeling in the morning. "Sleep seems to be an area where people skimp when they find themselves at particularly busy or stressful points in their lives..." says Melanie Giffen, owner of Bela Flor Apothecary. "Life changes, like having a baby, can be one reason for missed sleep, but so can the constant busy-culture that many Americans buy into. If poor sleep has developed into a habit, then it's important to break that cycle before it becomes chronic."
One way to accomplish a better night's sleep with CBD is to take the CBD+ hemp oil directly before bedtime. Larger doses may result in a longer, deeper slumber, but Giffen says that customers should start small and increase dosage over time depending on their experience with the product. If you are more of a novice to the CBD experience, and want to try topical instead of oral CBD, our soothing Moroccan Cedar Body Butter + CBD is a low-key way to introduce yourself to the relaxing effects of CBD with calming essential oils. And, we also have our hemp essential oil, which stands alone as a product and helps with rest and relaxation.

proper rest as a holistic concept

Taking a holistic approach means looking at the whole person, and not just one system, or one symptom. The interconnectedness between our habits and our body's mental, physical, and emotional health, cannot be overstated. Everything you do is contributing to your physical expression and overall health outcome. Sleep is one of those things that touches all the parts of your health, and so in looking at a holistically centered approach to medicine, I believe sleep is an important factor to consider.
"How you are sleeping, and how much you are sleeping (or not sleeping) can affect a variety of your systems from digestion to mental health to performance and concentration. Sleep is a foundational practice for good health. If you're having trouble sleeping, tackling the issue can be frustrating, but essential. CBD + hemp essential oil can help alleviate the stress around sleep and get you back into a healthy sleep pattern, which, in turn, can impact your overall health.
