Cardamom & Licorice Chai

This delicious licorice and cardamom chai latte will soothe your nerves, boost your immune system, and improve digestive health. What better way to start your day? It includes many delicious herbs and spices including nutmeg, which is an aphrodisiac that will uplift the mind and body. If you make a large pot of tea (without the additional fats or dairy) you can use it to mix with Bela Flor Elderberry Syrup for a winter immune booting shot.

I chose to make this a ‘bulletproof’ latte by blending in ghee and coconut fat, to nourish the brain and body. It also makes it super creamy and frothy…..which is delicious! However, if this is not for you, please use whichever milk or cream you like instead.

 ingredients

  • 2 tbsp licorice root, chopped

  • 1 tbsp cardamom pods

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 tsp black peppercorns

  • 1 tsp clove

  • 2-3 inch pieces sliced ginger root

  • 2-3 inch pieces sliced turmeric root

  • 2-3 tbsp honey

  • 2 tbsp ghee (optional)

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil (optional)

  • 3 pumps Bela Flor Serenity Drops (optional)

  • Nutmeg

 instructions

  1. Combine all spices and roots in pot and cover with water.

  2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes.

  3. If using ghee & coconut oil: Strain into blender.

  4. Add in honey to taste, coconut oil, ghee and the Bela Flor Serenity Drops.

  5. Blend on high for a few seconds until it becomes creamy and frothy.

  6. If not using the ghee and coconut oil: Strain into a teapot.

  7. Add milk and sweetener of your choice along with serenity drops and mix well.

  8. Pour into your favorite mug, grate fresh nutmeg on top and enjoy!

  9. Store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

notes

  • Healthy fats from the ghee and coconut oils are an excellent food for the brain and a great addition. However, once cooled off, this ‘bullet-proof’ latte will form solids from the fats. Simply reheat and blend to get the tea back to its creamy frothy state.

  • The spices and roots can be saved and re-used 1-2 more times with some fresh spices and roots added.
